GMPHN Senior Public Health Leadership Away Day: Rewiring the Public Health System

Senior public health leaders from across Greater Manchester came together for the GMPHN Senior Public Health Leadership Away Day, centred on the theme "Rewiring the Public Health System." The event provided an opportunity for Directors of Public Health and senior colleagues to reflect on the changing context within which we operate, strengthen relationships across the system and explore how public health can maximise its influence and impact in the years ahead.

The away day combined networking, panel discussions and facilitated group conversations. Attendees considered the opportunities presented by the national and city-regional context and Greater Manchester's ambitions for economic growth, social justice and improved health outcomes.

A key focus of the day was how GMPHN can become bigger, better and braver as a network. Discussions explored how public health leaders can work differently, demonstrate the value of prevention, and continue to influence decision-making within increasingly complex systems. Participants also reflected on the skills needed for future public health leadership, including effective communication, partnership working and maximising system-wide influence.

The event highlighted the strength of Greater Manchester's public health community and GMPHN's important role in providing collective public health leadership across the city region.
